The Rivers State chapter of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said it would no longer
condone the persistent and unwarranted insults and acts that undermine
the person and office of the President of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria by Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The party noted what it called daily
attacks by the governor on President Jonathan on issues that do not
deserve such onslaught, stressing that the extent of insubordination
and disrespect exhibited by Amaechi to the president can no longer be
tolerated by the party, as he (Amaechi) would not have endured that
long before taking action, including branding anyone who does that
against him as cultist and ensured he is arrested and detained
unlawfully.
The PDP also urged governor Amaechi to
rather than using the state’s security votes on frivolous trips, and
events, and sponsorship of the activities of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), utilise the billions of naira he collects monthly in
ending the upsurge in criminality in the state.
The party recalled that in the past
three weeks, several high profile killings and kidnappings had taken
place in the state, immediately CP Mbu Joseph Mbu was transferred,
adding that as three PDP stalwarts regained their freedom last week,
another high profile kidnap occurred last Sunday, as the site manager
of Rivigo, Mr. Leyira Kamanu, an indigene of Kpean Community in Khana
Local Government Area of the state was kidnapped.
The party demanded that it was high
time the governor settled down in the state, and use the state huge
financial resources judiciously, including tackling the spate of crimes
and violence.
It also called for the unconditional
release of Mr. Leyira Kamanu, and appealed to youths in the state to
desist from engaging themselves in acts of violence and criminality.
